Aadhaar card is one of the most important documents in India as it is required to avail benefits from many Government welfare schemes and it is also accepted as a proof of identity and residence. Hence, the information on your Aadhaar card must be updated, or else you may not be able to use it. Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) provides both online and offline facilities for Aadhaar cardholders to update their information whenever they want.
Information that can be updated in Aadhaar

Aadhaar Card Update Process
The Aadhaar card update process can be completed via two modes, i.e. through an online portal or Aadhaar enrolment centers. While the Aadhaar address can be updated through any of the above two modes, updating other demographics details, such as name, gender and date of birth, and biometric data is possible only through the enrolment centers. Here is the detailed stepwise guide to help you with the UIDAI Aadhaar update.
1. Aadhaar Card Correction through the online portal
If you want to change or update your Aadhaar card address online, you can log-on to the self-service portal of the UIDAI and follow the steps mentioned below for any Aadhaar card correction online:
Step 1: Visit the official UIDAI website at https://uidai.gov.in/.
Step 2: Locate the section titled “Update Your Aadhaar” under “My Aadhaar” tab and then click on the “Update Demographics Data and Check Status” option.
Step 3: On the next page, click on the “Login” button. Enter your Aadhaar number and type in the captcha code and click on the button “Send OTP”. You will receive an OTP on your registered mobile number. Type in the OTP when prompted. This will take you to your Aadhaar update portal.
Step 4: On the next page, click on the “Address Update” option.
Step 5: Next, click on the “Update Aadhaar Online” option.
Step 6: Read the instructions, and click the "Proceed to Update Aadhaar” button.
Step 7: Select the “Address” option and click the "Proceed to Update Aadhaar” button.
Step 8: Now, enter the updated information. Make sure that you enter the correct and up to date information. Also, check if every other information in your Aadhaar data is accurate. Next, upload the required document and click on the “Next” button. You will view the preview of the updated details. Make the payment and click on the “Submit” button.
Step 9: This will generate a SRN. Note down the SRN at a safe place as it will be required to check the Aadhar card update status later on. You can also download the copy of the acknowledgement.
It usually takes a few working days for the information to be updated. You can check the status of your update request using the SRN on the portal. If your request is approved, you will receive your updated Aadhaar card through post at your address. If the request is rejected for any reason, you will need to re-apply for the same.
2. Aadhaar Card Correction through Enrolment Centers
If you need to update your biometric details or your name, date of birth or gender on your Aadhaar card, you must visit your nearest Aadhaar enrolment center. Below are the steps involved in changing the Aadhaar details through an enrolment center:
- Step 1: Find out the nearest Aadhaar enrolment center through the UIDAI portal.
- Step 2: You are not required to make any prior appointment and can visit the enrolment centre as per your convenience.
- Step 3: Make sure you take the original copies of all your documents that have been mentioned against the respective change of information option.
- Step 4: Fill out the Aadhaar Correction Form/ Aadhaar Update Form
- Step 5: Then operator will take your biometrics (if required) and scan the copies of your documents.
- Step 6: Once the process is completed, you will get an acknowledgement receipt which will have the URN/SRN, which you can use to track the status of your Aadhar card update request.
If your documents are in order, you will receive the updated copy of Aadhaar at your address in a few working days.
