Usually your PAN, Aadhaar, Form 16 from your employer, bank account details, and proofs for any deductions you claim (80C, 80D, home-loan interest, and so on). If you have capital gains or other income, keep those statements handy too.
Most salaried returns are completed in under 15 minutes using our guided wizard. Upload your Form 16 and we pre-fill the details for you automatically.
Once your return is verified, refunds are typically credited within 2–6 weeks by the Income Tax Department. You can track the status any time from your EasyTax dashboard.
It depends on your income sources. EasyTax automatically selects the correct ITR form based on the details you enter, so you never have to guess.
Yes. Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest, stored on Indian servers in line with the DPDP Act, and never shared without your consent.
A late-filing fee under Section 234F applies if you file after the due date: ₹5,000, reduced to ₹1,000 if your total income is up to ₹5 lakh. If you have unpaid tax, interest under Section 234A (1% per month) also applies until you pay. You may also lose the ability to carry forward certain losses.
Yes. Under Section 139(5) you can file a revised return to correct any error or omission — as many times as needed — up to 31 December of the assessment year (or before the assessment is completed, whichever is earlier). The revised return fully replaces the original, so re-enter all details, not just the correction.
It is allowed, provided the arrangement is genuine: your parents must actually own the property, you must pay real rent (ideally by bank transfer), and keep a rent agreement and receipts. The rent your parents receive is taxable income in their hands and they must declare it. If annual rent exceeds ₹1,00,000 you will also need your parents' PAN. HRA exemption applies only under the Old Tax Regime.
You can still file a belated return under Section 139(4) until 31 December of the assessment year, with the 234F fee and any 234A interest. Miss that too and you generally cannot file for that year unless the department permits an updated return (ITR-U) under Section 139(8A), which carries additional tax. Filing late can also delay your refund and forfeit carry-forward of certain losses.
No. ITR filing is fully paperless. You do not upload or post Form 16, investment proofs, or receipts — but you must e-verify your return within 30 days (Aadhaar OTP, net banking, or bank EVC) to complete filing. Keep all supporting documents safely for at least six years in case of a future query or notice.
It depends on the fund type and holding period. For equity funds: gains on units held over 12 months are long-term, taxed at 12.5% above ₹1.25 lakh per year; 12 months or less is short-term at 20%. For debt funds bought on or after 1 April 2023, gains are taxed at your slab rate regardless of holding period. Always confirm rates against the latest Finance Act.
Yes. Our experts review the notice (such as Section 143(1) intimations, 139(9) defective-return notices, or 143(2)/148 scrutiny notices), explain what is being asked, and help you prepare and submit a correct, timely response on the e-filing portal. Share the notice with us as soon as you receive it, since most have strict response deadlines.
The Old Regime has higher slab rates but lets you claim deductions and exemptions — 80C, 80D, HRA, LTA, home-loan interest and more. The New Regime (now the default) offers lower slab rates and a higher standard deduction but removes most of those deductions. EasyTax computes your tax both ways and recommends the cheaper option.
No. Pricing is shown upfront before you pay, and the plan you select covers the filing service described — there are no surprise add-ons. If your return needs a higher-tier plan (for example, capital gains or business income), we tell you the exact price before you proceed, so you always confirm the cost first.
Once your return is processed, track the refund on the income tax e-filing portal under Services → Know Your Refund Status, or on the NSDL/TIN refund-status page using your PAN and the assessment year. Refunds are credited directly to your pre-validated bank account, so make sure that account is validated and linked to your PAN. Processing typically takes a few weeks after e-verification.
