Every trade imported, every rate applied right
Upload P&L from any broker and each lot is classified — short vs long term, pre- vs post-23-July-2024 rate, grandfathered pre-2018 equity. Hundreds of rows become one clean Schedule CG.
F&O is business income — we file ITR-3
Derivatives are non-speculative business income, not capital gains. Turnover computed the ICAI way, audit applicability assessed, losses carried forward — profit year or loss year.
Matched to AIS, so nothing bounces
The department already receives your broker and registrar data. We reconcile your return line-by-line so the refund processes instead of triggering a mismatch query.

ITR for investors & traders, AY 2026-27 explained
What investors and traders need to file
If you sold shares, redeemed mutual funds, traded F&O or dealt in crypto during the year, your return is materially more complex than a salaried one. Investors and traders report capital gains (and, for derivatives, business income), each with its own rate, holding-period and set-off rules. For AY 2026-27 the rates changed mid-year, so the date of every transaction matters. Getting it right means turning broker statements into an accurate Schedule CG (and, for F&O, a business schedule in ITR-3) that matches the department’s AIS.
Who this is for
Equity and mutual-fund investors, F&O and intraday traders, crypto holders, and anyone with ESOPs, unlisted shares or a mix of these. If you have many trades across one or more brokers, holdings bought before 31 January 2018 (grandfathering), or an F&O turnover you need to reconcile with your AIS, this is built for you. Salaried people who also invest belong here too — both incomes go into one consistent return.
The 2024 rate change, grandfathering and F&O
For transfers on or after 23 July 2024, listed-equity short-term gains are taxed at 20% and long-term at 12.5% beyond the ₹1.25 lakh annual exemption; earlier sales in the same year carry the older 15%/10% rates — which is why lot-level dates matter. Equity bought before 31 January 2018 is grandfathered to its fair value on that date. F&O is non-speculative business income filed in ITR-3, with turnover computed as the sum of absolute profits and losses per ICAI guidance and a tax audit only above ₹10 crore of that turnover. Use the calculators below to estimate your gains before you file.
The right ITR form
Investors without business income file ITR-2; add F&O or intraday business income and it becomes ITR-3. Capital gains cannot go in the simple ITR-1. We select and file the correct form, so you never risk a defective-return notice from using the wrong one, and we set off and carry forward losses in the optimal order.

Losses, deadlines & why get it reviewed
Why you should file even a loss year
Capital and F&O losses carry forward for up to eight years and set off against future gains — but only if the return is filed by the due date. Skipping a bad year burns that shield permanently, so a future profitable year is taxed in full. Short-term and long-term losses follow different rules, and the order of set-off affects your tax, so getting the sequence right matters as much as the gains themselves.
Documents and deadlines
You’ll need the capital-gains or P&L statement from each broker, a demat statement for grandfathered pre-2018 equity, and, for derivatives, the F&O tax P&L and turnover report. Crypto needs your exchange statements. The filing due date for most non-audit investors is 31 July 2026; F&O cases needing a tax audit have a later date. Filing early keeps your refund and set-offs safe.
Why file with EasyTax
Every schedule is CA-reviewed and reconciled line-by-line with your AIS, so refunds process without queries. We apply the correct rate to each lot, handle grandfathering and F&O turnover, and pick the right ITR form. For transfers on or after 23 July 2024, short-term gains on listed equity are taxed at 20% and long-term at 12.5% beyond the ₹1.25 lakh annual exemption. Sales earlier in the same financial year carry the older 15%/10% rates, so we compute your gains lot by lot using each sale date rather than one blanket rate.
No. Futures and options are non-speculative business income under the Income Tax Act, filed in ITR-3 with a business schedule. Turnover is the sum of absolute profits and losses per ICAI guidance, and a tax audit applies only above ₹10 crore of that turnover for mostly-digital traders. It’s a different framework from capital gains, and filing it that way is essential.
Yes — losses carry forward for up to eight years only if you file by the due date. Skip it and the set-off against future gains is gone permanently. Filing a loss year is one of the most valuable things an investor or trader can do, and it’s exactly where DIY filers slip up.
Gains on virtual digital assets are taxed at a flat 30% under Schedule VDA, with limited set-off, and a 1% TDS under Section 194S applies to transfers. We report it correctly and claim the 194S credit. Since exchanges report to the department, leaving crypto off your return is risky.
ITR-2 if you have capital gains but no business income; ITR-3 if you also trade F&O or intraday (business income). Capital gains cannot go in ITR-1. We select and file the right form so you don’t risk a defective-return notice from the wrong one.
Listed equity bought before 31 January 2018 is grandfathered — its cost for long-term gains is stepped up to its fair market value on that date, so gains accrued before then aren’t taxed. We apply this from your demat statement, which DIY filers frequently miss and overpay as a result.
Yes. The LTCG calculator estimates your long-term equity tax after the ₹1.25 lakh exemption, XIRR measures your true annualised return, and the Share Average calculator works out your blended buy price. They’re a helpful first look; the final Schedule CG is built precisely from your broker statements.
In one return that reports both your salary (from Form 16) and your capital gains or F&O income together, consistently, so nothing contradicts your AIS. Filing them separately or in the wrong form is a common trigger for notices, which combining them into a single correct ITR avoids.
Not if it’s done right. The department already receives your broker and registrar data through the AIS, so the risk is from omitting or misreporting, not from reporting. We reconcile your return against the AIS before filing, which is what prevents the mismatch queries that catch DIY filers.
Gains to report? File them right.
Estimate above, then hand your broker statements to a CA who files them accurately.
