PAN Card Correction/Update Online: How To Change Name, Address, DOB And Mobile Number In Pan card?

Permanent Account Number (PAN) is an extremely important identity proof for your Income Tax filings. If details like your name, date of birth, photo, signature, father's name, Aadhaar, gender, mobile number, email ID, address or contact information are incorrect or changed, it is recommended to rectify and update the PAN card as soon as possible.

How to Change PAN Card Details?

There may be mistakes in your name, parent's name or date of birth when your PAN card is printed. There may be changes in your address or name after your PAN card is issued. In such cases, your name, parents name, address or birth date must be changed and updated on your PAN card. The PAN card details can be changed online or offline.

How to update PAN card online?

You can update PAN card details online through the NSDL e-Gov website or the UTIITSL website. If you have applied for a PAN card via the NSDL e-Gov website, then you need to apply for updating PAN details on that website. Similarly, when you have applied for a PAN card on the UTIITSL website, you need to update the PAN card details on the UTIITSL website.

How to update a PAN card on the NSDL e-Gov portal?

Follow this step-by-step guide to make PAN card correction online:

Step 1: Visit the NSDL e-Gov portal.

Step 2: Click on the ‘Services’ tab and select ‘PAN’ from the dropdown menu.

Step 3: Now scroll down and locate the heading ‘Change/Correction in PAN Data’. Click on ‘Apply’ from the list of options given. 

Step 4: You will now have to fill up this Online PAN Application. Let us see how to fill all the particulars.

  • Application type: Changes or Correction in existing PAN Data/Reprint of PAN Card 
  • Category: Select the relevant category from the drop-down menu.  
  • Other details: Fill in other personal details like:
    • Title
    • Last Name /Surname
    • First Name
    • Middle Name
    • Date of Birth / Incorporation / Formation
    • Email ID
    • Mobile Number
    • Citizenship (Indian or not)
    • PAN number
  • Type in ‘Captcha Code’ and tap on ‘Submit’.

Step 5: Once the request is registered, you will receive a Token Number on the Email ID provided here. This token number can be used to access the draft version of the form in case of session timeout.

Now, click on ‘Continue with PAN Application Form’.

Step 6: On this screen, you will see three options. 

  • Submit digitally through e-KYC & e-Sign (Paperless)
  • Submit scanned images through e-Sign
  • Forward application documents physically

To complete the entire process online through Aadhaar OTP, select the first option ‘Submit digitally through e-KYC & e-Sign (Paperless)’ for updating your PAN.

Step 7: If you need a new physical copy of the updated PAN card, select yes. Nominal charges will be applicable.

Step 8: Scroll down and enter the last four digits of your Aadhaar number. 

Step 9: Scroll down and update the required details. Remember to tick the relevant box for which correction or update is required. After filling up, click on ‘Next’ to proceed to the page ‘Contact and other details’

Step 10: Here, enter the new address or updated mobile number or email and proceed to the next page.

Step 11: Based on the particular you have updated, attach the proof document along with a copy of PAN.

Step 12: In the declaration section, 

  • Mention your name,
  • Declare that you are submitting the form in your own capacity, i.e. select ‘Himself/herself’,
  • Enter your place of residence.

Step 13: Scroll down and attach a copy of your ‘photograph’ and ‘signature’. Ensure the files are as per the specifications and sizes mentioned. Once done, click ‘Submit’.

Step 14: You will now see a preview of the form. Enter the first eight digits of your Aadhaar Number and ensure all other details filled in by you are correct.  

Step 15: After submitting the PAN card correction form, the payment page will appear. Payment can be done through various payment gateways. After successful payment, you will receive a payment receipt.

Step 16: To complete the PAN card update/correction process, click ‘continue’. You will now have to complete the KYC process. Select the check box to accept the terms and conditions and click on ‘Authenticate’.

Step 17: An OTP will be generated and sent to your Aadhaar Registered mobile number. Enter the OTP and submit the online PAN application form.

Step 18: On the next screen, click on ‘continue’ with eSign.

Step 19: Here, accept the terms and conditions by ticking the box. Enter your Aadhaar number and click on ‘Send OTP’

Step 20: Enter the OTP sent to your Aadhaar Registered mobile number and verify. You can now download the acknowledgement form. The password to open this file is your date of birth in the format DD/MM/YYYY.

Please note: If you choose the ‘Forward application documents physically’ option in Step 6, you will have to take a print out of the acknowledgement and send the acknowledgement along with the attachment of the required documents to the following address by post:

How to update a PAN card on UTIITSL portal? 

Step 1: Visit the UTIITSL website.

Step 2: Click the ‘Click to Appy’ under the ‘Change/Correction in PAN Card’ tab.

Step 3: Click the ‘Apply for Change/Correction in PAN card details’ tab.

Step 4: Select the mode of submission of documents, enter your PAN number, select the PAN card mode and click the ‘Submit’ button.

Step 5:  Once the request is registered, you will receive a reference number. Click on ‘OK’.

Step 6: Remember to tick the fields that requires to be updated or corrected. Enter the updated or correct personal details. Click on ‘Next Step’ once the details are entered.

Step 7: Address will be updated as per your Aadhaar card. Enter your contact details and click on ‘Next Step’.

Step 8: Enter the PAN number and verification and click the ‘Next Step’ button.

Step 9: Upload the documents and click the ‘Submit’ button.

Step 10: Verify the details on the form and click on the ‘Make Payment’ button.

Step 11: Select the mode of online payment and make the payment. A success message will be displayed once the payment is successfully made. Take a print out of the form.

It generally takes around 15 days for PAN correction. You will receive a text message on your registered mobile number when your PAN card is dispatched via post. 

Please note: If If you choose the ‘Physical(Forward Application with documents physically)’ option in Step 4, you will have to take a print out of the form, affix photograph and signature, attach the documents to the form and post them to any one of the following nearest UTIITSL offices:

How to update PAN offline?

To file for PAN card correction offline, follow this step-by-step guide:

Step 1: Download the PAN card correction form online.

Step 2: Fill out the entire form and submit the same with essential documents at any nearest PAN centre.

Step 3: After your submission and payment, you will receive an acknowledgement slip at the centre.

Step 4: You will need to send this slip to the Income Tax PAN Service Unit of the NSDL within 15 days.

Documents Required to Change PAN Card Details

  • Copy of PAN card
  • Identity proof, such as Aadhaar card, Voter's ID, driving license, ration card, etc.
  • Address proof, such as Aadhaar card, Voter's ID, property tax receipts, utility bills, etc.

Fees for PAN card update or correction

The fee for PAN card correction when submitted offline is Rs.110. If the PAN card is to be dispatched outside India, the applicant should pay an additional dispatch fee of Rs.910.

You can check the status of your PAN card correction application online by following the below process:

  • Go to the NSDL PAN website or the UTIITSL website.
  • Click the ‘Download e-PAN/ e-PAN XML’ option.
  • Enter the PAN number, date of birth, GSTIN (if applicable) and Captcha code and click ‘Submit’.

Your e-PAN card will get downloaded or the link to download the e-PAN will be sent to your email through which you can download it.

You can submit any one of the following documents as proof of PAN:

The PAN card correction application should be signed by the following:

  • The applicant
  • Karta, in the case of HUF
  • Director, in the case of a company
  • Authorised signatory, in the case of Association of Persons (AOP), Body of Individuals (BOI), local authority and artificial juridical person
  • Partner, in the case of a partnership firm or Limited Liability Partnership (LLP)
  • Trustee, in the case of a trust
  • Representative assessee, in the case of a minor

 

No, an individual cannot have more than one PAN. You cannot apply for another PAN card if a PAN is already allotted to you. A penalty of Rs. 10,000 can be imposed under​ ​Section 272B​ of the Income-tax Act, 1961, when you have more than one PAN. Thus, if you have been allotted more than one PAN, you should immediately surrender the additional PAN card.


 

You can change or update the photo on your PAN card by filling up the PAN card correction application on the official website of NSDL or UTIITSL. 


 

Anyone who wants to make changes to their PAN card can apply for it when they have the required document proof.


 

It takes around 15 days to get the updated PAN card to your address by post.
